The Assheton Arms in Downham, near Clitheroe, is a free house, reflecting perfectly its idyllic location in the picturesque Ribble Valley.  With no television aerials, dormer windows or road signs in sight, Downham, itself, nestles in the lea of Pendle Hill and is hugely popular with tourists enjoying a ‘get away from it all break’ and with film and television crews whose search for that unusually ideal location is now over!

At the heart of any village is the pub and at the ‘hub of the pub’ is the bar.  This is typified at the Assheton Arms where, from our attractive, well stocked bar, we dispense a range of drinks (*including a choice of wines and champagnes – by the glass.) In addition, there is an imaginative menu featuring an unusual choice of fish and seafood and on Sundays, the choice is further enhanced by a traditional roast lunch option.  We also have a function room, ideal for group bookings of up to 50 people and it’s never too early to book for our pre- Christmas Dinner Parties which are held throughout the month of December.

This region, though, is one of Outstanding Natural Beauty and apart from the beautiful Ribble Valley, we have, on our doorstep, The Forest of Bowland, Pendle Hill, the home of the Pendle Witches (!) and so much more for visitors to digest and enjoy.  Our aim is to add to your memorable experience and our customers can further digest and enjoy a daytime or evening break with some excellent value food and drink.

We have a car park for the use of customers and the Assheton Arms extends a warm welcome to all, including children and dogs.  Call in soon for the perfect addition to your visit to this lovely region.
